What makes us passionate about our subject? (Intent)

We are passionate about Politics because it empowers students to understand how power, ideas and institutions shape the society in which they live. At a time when political decisions influence every aspect of our lives, from education and healthcare to rights and freedoms, Politics enables students to engage critically with the world around them and become informed, active citizens. Through the study of UK and US politics, political ideologies and key contemporary debates, students explore competing visions of society and consider how political systems respond to the challenges they face. 

Our aim is to foster curiosity, open-mindedness and intellectual confidence by encouraging students to debate, question and evaluate different viewpoints. Politics is a subject that combines academic rigour with real-world relevance, allowing students to connect theoretical ideas with current events and political developments. We want students to appreciate the beauty of Politics as a subject that helps us understand not only how societies are governed, but also how individuals and groups can influence change. Through this, students develop a lifelong interest in political issues and a deeper understanding of their role within a democratic society. 

What do our students gain by studying our subject? (Impact)

Through studying Pearson Edexcel A Level Politics, students develop a sophisticated understanding of political systems, ideologies and the nature of power in both the UK and the United States. They learn to analyse evidence, construct persuasive arguments and evaluate differing perspectives, building the critical thinking and communication skills that are highly valued in higher education and the workplace. By engaging with contemporary political issues, students become more confident in discussing complex topics and more informed about the decisions that affect their lives. 

Beyond academic achievement, Politics encourages students to become thoughtful, engaged and responsible citizens. They develop an appreciation of democracy, participation and the importance of informed debate while learning to respect and critically assess a range of viewpoints. The subject equips students with the knowledge and skills to engage confidently with current affairs and prepares them for a wide range of future pathways, including law, journalism, public policy, civil service, international relations, teaching and business.
