What makes us passionate about our subject? (Intent)

We are passionate about Psychology because it combines the fascination of studying human behaviour with the rigour of scientific investigation. We want students to experience the beauty of a subject that explores what makes us human, from memory and attachment to mental health and social influence. Through engaging with classic and contemporary research, students learn to question assumptions, evaluate evidence and appreciate the complexities of human experience. Our curriculum is designed to foster curiosity, critical thinking and empathy, enabling students to develop a deeper understanding of themselves, others and the world around them.

What do our students gain by studying our subject? (Impact)

Through studying AQA A Level Psychology, students develop a deep understanding of human behaviour, cognition and mental processes, enabling them to make sense of both individual and social experiences. They gain valuable analytical, evaluative and research skills by exploring a wide range of theoretical approaches and conducting practical investigations. Students learn to critically assess evidence, interpret data and construct well-reasoned arguments, preparing them for higher education and a variety of careers including psychology, healthcare, education, business, law and the social sciences. Psychology also promotes empathy, self-awareness and an appreciation of diversity by examining how biological, cognitive and environmental factors influence behaviour. Ultimately, students leave the course as informed, reflective and skilled thinkers who can apply psychological knowledge to real-world issues and make evidence-based judgements about the world around them.
