The Academy held its inaugural summer Ball on the 7th July. The event was organised by the Priory Association in aid of student extra-curricular activities, which they support throughout the year. The Association is the parent/teacher association of the Academy. The ball at Double Tree by Hilton was a wonderful black tie evening in one of the banqueting suites against the backdrop of the cathedral. The main sponsors for the event were Western Power Distribution, and in addition to staff and parents, local businesses were also well represented. The sterling work by the Priory Association was fully rewarded with a provisional amount of £2800 being raised to support further activities, a new grand piano being a current main aim.
Over the past couple of years the Association has supported many extra-curricular activities either through the purchase of equipment and resources or through their presence at our evening events. To name a few: the Miriam Moss visit to Y7 Bookbuzz, author of ‘Girl on a Plane’; Rock Challenge – donation to Northern Final for two consecutive years; Academy production copyright costs; further author visits; Chess Club Tournament; Year 11 Ball and seventy athletics vests.
