On Thursday 28th June, the Arts Extravaganza was once again a big hit. There were many performances such as; musical duets using voice and instruments; drama pieces; choirs ensembles and much more.
Zoe from Year 7 performed two drama pieces and said,“It was a great way for me to make new friends,” whereas Eilish from Year 10 did some painting and commented that it really helped her to develop her art skills”. Grace, who is also in Year 10, said, “It built up my confidence to play in front of the public”.
The Arts Extravaganza was enjoyed by everyone: students, teachers and parents. There were also international aspects to the event, including African drumming, which gave pupils and parents the chance to try a new form of expression, using authentic African drumming equipment. Art work also expressed different global issues, deforestation, tribes and human interaction with different parts of the world.
There was also the Bella Tela Fashion Fabric Design competition for Year 11s, 12s and 13s. The winning designers were Francesca Hobbs and Hannah Parker. These students had the opportunity to work with the UK based company, Bella Tela. They had their fabric designs manufactured in the Far East and will receive four meters of the hand painted silk for their own portfolios. The designs will also be part of the spring/summer 2013 collection and will be presented at an international textile trade show in Paris.
The evening was undoubtedly a great success; many thanks to everyone involved.
