Post Sixth Form Options
The Priory Academy LSST is a state funded, co-educational, partially selective 11-18 Academy, which is part of a growing Federation of Academies. There are over 1800 students currently on roll taken from a large geographical area. The Academy is situated near the urban centre of the city of Lincoln, which has a population of approximately 130,000. Lincolnshire is predominately agricultural and rural with lower than average wages and progression to Higher Education.
There are around 450 students in the Sixth Form. Since 2016, students have overwhelmingly taken three rather than four A Levels, and have the option of studying for an EPQ as well. A very small number of students take four subjects at A Level, which usually involves students who are taking Further Mathematics. The Academy offers around 30 A level courses, 5 BTEC courses and AS Level examinations are rarely taken.
Predicted grades are determined through a combination of teacher assessment, mock examination and professional judgment. Each year approximately 78% of our Year 13 students progress to university or Further Education.
It is the expectation at The Priory Academy LSST that the overwhelming majority of our Sixth Form students will leave the Sixth Form to follow a course at university.
In order to support the students with this aim, we provide a range of activities to enable the students to be as successful as possible with this endeavour. There is the opportunity to do voluntary work through the Duke of Edinburgh Awards as well as guidance with completing an Extended Project. We encourage students to pursue relevant work experience and will try to guide students towards the options in conjunction with our careers and pathways team.
Throughout Years 12 & 13 the Sixth Form team work with the students to guide them in their reading and research on the subjects they wish to study at university. There are many courses at universities to provide the students with valuable information; we guide the students towards the relevant opportunities for them. Many opportunities usually occur during Year 12 & 13 when students can apply for Summer Schools and attend University Open Days.
Throughout the two years, we provide guidance for the potential early entry students on how to strengthen their application through additional reading and research. They have access to advice on completing courses such as UCAT (University Clinical Aptitude Test), STEP, LNAT (Law Aptitude Test), etc. As the number of these courses which some students have to complete grows we work to provide them with the support they require.
The process of completing a personal statement for a university application is taken very seriously and considerable advice and support is given. There are opportunities to gain interview experience with a range of staff who specialise in different subject interviews.
The ethos of the Sixth Form is about supporting the student to be able to develop both academically and through extra-curricular activities with the aim of supporting each student to achieve their post sixth form goal in their chosen field. If a student does not wish to apply for university, we will arrange a careers interview to guide them through their options. We will also supply advice on how to produce a good CV and they will receive interview practice.
